The Speyside Centre’s Clootie Dumpling
It’s time to make your favourite sweet treat even sweeter. We highly recommend that you pair your next dram of our very own Stag’s Breath Liqueur with the Scottish classic that is a Clootie Dumping.
We are over the moon to have teamed up with another one of our local retailers, The Speyside Centre in Dulnain Bridge, who have recommended that you pair our gently spiced liqueur with their densely packed, fruity pudding.
Unsure of what a Clootie Dumpling is? This Scottish pudding is mainly eaten as a celebration cake and is widely associated with Christmas and Hogmanay – so perfect timing to try this one with Christmas just around the corner. A Clootie Dumpling is simply a spiced pudding, made with flour, sultanas, raisins, sugar, apple, treacle and spices. It is then wrapped in a cloth, as referred to by the name – Cloot meaning Cloth in gaelic – and simmered in water for a lengthy period.
Once cooked, to be reheated, a Clootie Dumpling can be popped in the Microwave, fried in butter (the calories don’t count at Christmas) or heated in the over. It tastes particularly nice when topped with hot custard, ice cream or simply coated in butter,
If you are looking to indulge yourself this Christmas, keep the Scottish tradition alive and buy (or make) yourself a Clootie Dumpling, grab a glass of our Stag’s Breath Liqueur, put your feet up and enjoy – you most definitely deserve it after the year that we have all had.
