Mother’s Day 2024 has rolled around, the day we thank our mums, our step-mums, our mums in law, our surrogate mums and anyone else that is our ‘go to’ for love and encouragement. The best present is often ‘just bring yourself’ but, unfortunately, the days of being able to hug our loved ones are a bit away yet. Pamper Mum with Scottish Heather

Heather honey is so important in the crafting of Stag’s Breath. And living in the Highlands we love it when we can walk the springy heather clad hills in late summer. Both in the warm, honeyed liqueur and in our lives, heather is of prime importance and much appreciated in all its purple glory. Anything that reminds us of its fabulous aroma is OK with us and would be a great present for a loved mum for Mother’s Day 2021.

Handmade in the Highlands of Scotland

Highland Soaps Company soap is handmade by a centuries-old, traditional process. In this slow method of soap production, it takes us around four weeks to cure each carefully prepared batch. Our handmade cold-process soaps are mild and moisturising on sensitive, dry skin.

We use organic and natural ingredients and sustainable packaging in a small-scale batch process to create what we believe are the finest and most ethical soap and skincare products made in Scotland.

Vegetarian friendly

The products and raw ingredients are Cruelty-Free and not tested on animals. With the exception of a few which contain organic honey, they are suitable for vegans, too.

Honey to Keep Mum Sweet

Honey is such an important part of our lives as we create the unique taste of our Stag’s Breath Liqueur with its musky nose of comb heather honey.  The honey brings warmth and smoothness and reminds us of the sunny days of August as the bees make their busy ways across the Highland heather-clad hills.  We do have honey suppliers in the Cairngorm National Park but many are very small and this is the time of year when bees are just beginning to get going again and local honey is still a few months in the future.

The Scottish Bee Company was founded by Iain and Suzie Millar in 2017. They felt strongly about the UK’s declining bee population and decided to do something to help. Their passion and determination prompted them to adopt some bees, hire a team of expert bee farmers and brought them together in the heather covered hills of Scotland to produce uniquely flavorful honeys that evoke a sense of Scotland’s unspoiled wilderness.

The Book of the Name (Stag's Breath) for Mum

So, a lovely idea that mum can settle down for the Sunday evening with her wee dram of Stag’s Breath and an iconic novel.  Within the pages of Whisky Galore lie the origins of the name of our famous Scottish liqueur.  Stag’s Breath was the favourite dram of the islanders in the book – and you will need to read it to find out more.  There have been two films made of the book, one quite recently starring Eddie Izzard, but, unfortunately, the inventive whisky names from the imagination of Compton Mackenzie were lost in translation.

THE DESIGN

Asprey’s famous range of animal head decanters are exactingly handmade in our London workshops above New Bond Street. Each is made using the finest materials by means of a painstaking process. The lead-free crystal is melted and blown only four times a year, and thanks to the difficulty of achieving a product that reaches our standards, the failure rate (even with the most skilled of craftspeople) is 90% or higher, given the Asprey criteria for quality.
